Michelle Wagner

Delta Dental of California
Internal Communications Manager
Michelle's career in communications spans nearly two decades. Most recently, she was the manager of Internal Communications at Delta Dental, where she spent 15 years and several roles. Starting out as the Cultural Linguistic Specialist in the State Government Programs division in 2003, she spent her first two years with the company ensuring compliance with language assistance requirements in state contracts, procuring translation and interpreting services for limited English proficient enrollees, conducting cultural competency training for Contact Center staff and spending time in the community educating Delta Dental's diverse communities on the importance of dental health. In 2005, she relocated to the Bay Area -- and began a new position with Public Affairs, responsible for bilingual copywriting and editing in both PR and internal communications-related capacities. Her love for connecting with people through communication pushed her toward internal communications, an area she developed and grew during her last several years at Delta Dental, partnering closely with HR in culture transformation and engagement initiatives as well as communications for the HR portfolio, including wellness, compensation and benefits, and talent management.

Michelle studied Spanish and English Literature at Sacramento State University. She spent two years in Madrid, Spain, teaching ESL and enjoying the expatriate life. She also worked as a medical interpreter (if you ever need to know how to say "jaundice" or "hay fever" in Spanish, just ask her) and still does pro bono Spanish translations for nonprofit organizations.

Besides being fluent in Spanish, Michelle is fluent in NBA basketball (Go Dubs!) and OutKast lyrics.
